Yomimasu Terms of Service
Last updated: 13 October 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Yomimasu, including the website at yomimasu.com, its reading tools, learning features, content, subscriptions, applications, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
The Service is operated by:
In these Terms, “Yomimasu,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator identified above.
By creating an account, accessing or using the Service, or purchasing a paid plan, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
1. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 14 years old to create a Yomimasu account. If you have not reached the age at which you may enter into a binding contract in your country, you may use the Service only with the authorization of a parent or legal guardian.
You must provide accurate information and keep your account information reasonably current.
Your account is personal to you. Unless Yomimasu expressly permits otherwise, you may not sell, transfer, sublicense, rent, or share your account or Premium access with another person.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for activity occurring through your account. You must notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
We may require reasonable verification of account ownership before making security-sensitive changes.
2. The Yomimasu Service
Yomimasu provides Japanese-language reading and learning tools, which may include graded stories, furigana, vocabulary information, dictionary data, grammar information, translations, AI-generated explanations, progress tracking, bookmarks, Known/Review features, and other learning functionality.
Features, content, supported devices, third-party providers, limits, and functionality may change over time.
We may add, modify, replace, suspend, or remove features or content where reasonably necessary for product development, security, legal compliance, technical changes, third-party-service changes, abuse prevention, operational reasons, or improvement of the Service.
A purchase does not guarantee that every feature, story, integration, AI model, dictionary, design, or learning method available on the date of purchase will remain unchanged indefinitely.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights that applicable law does not allow us to limit.
3. Educational content and accuracy
Yomimasu is a language-learning and reading service. It is not an accredited educational institution and does not guarantee any particular learning outcome, examination result, language level, employment outcome, or fluency.
Information shown by Yomimasu—including translations, furigana, readings, definitions, JLPT classifications, tokenization, grammar labels, AI explanations, difficulty levels, and other linguistic information—may occasionally contain errors, omissions, ambiguities, or alternative interpretations.
Users remain responsible for deciding how to use learning information provided by the Service.
References to JLPT levels are intended as learning guidance. Yomimasu is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the organizations responsible for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test unless expressly stated otherwise.
4. AI-generated and automated content
Some Yomimasu functionality may use artificial intelligence, machine translation, automated linguistic analysis, or third-party language-processing systems.
Outputs generated by these systems may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or inappropriate for a particular context.
You should not treat AI-generated explanations or translations as authoritative professional, legal, medical, financial, academic, or other specialist advice.
We may change the models, providers, prompts, systems, limits, or implementation used to provide AI or automated functionality without notice where reasonably necessary.
5. Free access
Yomimasu may offer certain content or functionality without payment.
The availability, quantity, limits, or features of the free plan may change from time to time.
Free access does not create a contractual entitlement to any particular number of stories, AI requests, features, storage limits, or other benefits indefinitely.
We may impose reasonable usage limits to prevent abuse or excessive resource consumption.
6. Premium plans
Yomimasu may offer paid access through monthly subscriptions, annual subscriptions, Lifetime Access, or other plans displayed at checkout.
The features included in a paid plan are those described at the time of purchase, subject to the modification provisions in these Terms.
Prices, billing periods, currencies, taxes, and applicable charges will be shown before purchase.
Monthly and annual subscriptions
Monthly and annual subscriptions are billed in advance.
Unless cancelled, they automatically renew at the end of each applicable billing period using the payment method associated with your account.
By purchasing a recurring subscription, you authorize us and our payment processor to charge the applicable recurring subscription fee and applicable taxes until you cancel.
You may cancel a recurring subscription through the billing/account functionality made available by Yomimasu or its payment processor.
Unless applicable law requires otherwise, cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period already paid for. You retain Premium access until that time.
We do not charge a separate cancellation fee.
Price changes
We may change subscription prices prospectively.
A price change will not retroactively change a billing period you have already paid for.
Where required by law, we will provide advance notice before a new price applies to a renewal.
If you do not agree to a new recurring price, you may cancel before the affected renewal.
7. Lifetime Access
“Lifetime Access” means Premium access for the commercial lifetime of the Yomimasu Service, not the biological lifetime of the purchaser and not a guarantee that Yomimasu will operate forever.
Lifetime Access is:
- a one-time purchase;
- personal and non-transferable;
- subject to these Terms; and
- valid while Yomimasu continues to operate the applicable Premium service.
Lifetime Access applies to the Yomimasu service and features included within the Lifetime offering. It does not automatically entitle the purchaser to separate future products, services, applications, add-ons, enterprise products, or features that Yomimasu clearly offers as separately priced products.
We may evolve, redesign, add to, replace, or remove individual Yomimasu features over time.
If the entire Yomimasu paid service is permanently discontinued, any remedies required by applicable mandatory law remain unaffected.
8. Payments
Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers.
You authorize the relevant payment provider to process charges associated with purchases you make.
You are responsible for providing a valid payment method and for ensuring that you are authorized to use it.
Currency conversion charges, card-issuer fees, bank charges, or similar fees imposed independently by your financial provider are your responsibility.
Applicable taxes may be included in the displayed price or added at checkout, depending on your location and applicable law.
If a payment fails, is reversed, expires, or remains unpaid, we may retry the payment where permitted and may restrict or suspend paid access until payment is successfully completed.
We may refuse or cancel a transaction if we reasonably suspect fraud, abuse, unauthorized payment activity, pricing errors, or unlawful conduct.
9. Refunds and statutory withdrawal rights
Except where required by applicable law or where Yomimasu expressly states otherwise, payments are final and non-refundable.
In particular, cancellation of a monthly or annual subscription does not ordinarily entitle you to a refund or credit for unused portions of the current billing period.
We may choose to issue a refund, credit, or other accommodation in individual circumstances. Doing so does not create an obligation to provide the same treatment in future cases.
If a payment is fully refunded, we may revoke the Premium access associated with that payment.
Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable refund, cancellation, conformity, withdrawal, or other consumer right available under applicable law.
Where applicable law gives you a statutory withdrawal period and you request immediate access to digital content or digital services, your withdrawal rights and any payment obligations are governed by that law.
Where legally permitted, we may ask you at checkout to expressly request immediate performance and acknowledge any resulting effect on your statutory withdrawal rights.
10. Subscription cancellation
You may cancel your recurring subscription at any time using the billing-management functionality provided through Yomimasu or our payment provider.
Cancellation stops future renewals.
Deleting your account is not necessarily the same as cancelling a third-party subscription unless the interface expressly states otherwise. You remain responsible for cancelling recurring billing through the method provided.
If Yomimasu later distributes subscriptions through an external marketplace or app store, purchases made through that provider may need to be managed directly through that provider.
11. Intellectual property
Except for content owned by third parties or users, the Service and its contents are owned by or licensed to Yomimasu.
This includes, without limitation:
Yomimasu stories, text, illustrations, graphics, branding, logos, interface designs, databases, selections and arrangements of data, vocabulary and grammar presentations, explanations, software, code, algorithms, learning systems, tokenized content, metadata, and other materials.
Subject to these Terms, Yomimasu grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable right to access and use the Service for your own personal language-learning purposes.
Purchasing Premium or Lifetime Access does not transfer ownership of any Yomimasu intellectual property to you.
Except where applicable law expressly permits otherwise, you may not copy, reproduce, publish, redistribute, sell, license, commercially exploit, systematically extract, mirror, republish, create a competing database from, or create derivative commercial products based on Yomimasu content.
Normal personal study activities, such as writing personal notes or quoting limited portions where permitted by law, are not prohibited.
12. Scraping, automation and circumvention
You may not, without our prior written permission:
- scrape, crawl, harvest, spider, bulk-download, or systematically extract Yomimasu content or data, except ordinary indexing by legitimate public search engines that respect our technical instructions;
- use bots or automation to create accounts or access the Service in a way that exceeds ordinary human use;
- bypass or attempt to bypass Premium restrictions, paywalls, authentication, rate limits, security controls, or technical restrictions;
- obtain Premium content through unauthorized technical means;
- reverse engineer or attempt to discover source code, algorithms, non-public APIs, or underlying systems except to the extent applicable law expressly gives you that right;
- reproduce Yomimasu content for training, evaluating, fine-tuning, or building competing commercial AI, language-learning, reading, dictionary, or educational products without our written permission;
- interfere with or overload the Service; or
- help another person engage in prohibited activity.
The fact that content may technically be present in page source, structured HTML, search-engine-accessible markup, or another machine-readable format does not grant permission to extract, reproduce, redistribute, or use that content outside the rights granted by these Terms.
13. Acceptable use
You may not use Yomimasu:
- unlawfully;
- fraudulently;
- to infringe intellectual-property, privacy, publicity or other rights;
- to distribute malware or harmful code;
- to interfere with other users;
- to probe, attack, disrupt or compromise Yomimasu infrastructure;
- to impersonate another person;
- to evade payment;
- to abuse free-plan limits;
- to create multiple accounts principally to circumvent restrictions; or
- in any way that creates unreasonable security, legal, operational, or reputational risk for Yomimasu.
We may investigate suspected violations.
14. User-submitted content and feedback
You retain ownership of content you lawfully submit to Yomimasu.
To the extent necessary to operate, secure, improve, display, process, store, transmit, back up, and provide the Service, you grant Yomimasu a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use such content for those purposes.
You represent that you have the rights necessary to submit any content you provide.
If you voluntarily provide ideas, suggestions, feature requests, corrections, or other feedback about Yomimasu, we may use that feedback without restriction or compensation to you.
15. Third-party services
Yomimasu relies on third-party services that may include hosting, authentication, databases, payment processing, email delivery, analytics, artificial intelligence, translation, and other infrastructure providers.
Those services may experience outages, errors, changes, limitations, or discontinuation outside our control.
We may replace third-party providers at our discretion where reasonably necessary.
Third-party websites or services linked from Yomimasu may be governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services except to the extent applicable law provides otherwise.
16. Availability and maintenance
We aim to provide a reliable Service, but continuous or error-free availability is not guaranteed.
The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, updates, security events, provider outages, network failures, force majeure, technical errors, or other circumstances.
We may perform scheduled or emergency maintenance without liability for ordinary temporary interruptions, subject to mandatory law.
We do not guarantee that every piece of content, feature, or historical user record will remain available indefinitely.
17. Account suspension and termination
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access where we reasonably believe that:
- you have materially or repeatedly violated these Terms;
- your account creates a security risk;
- payment is overdue or fraudulent;
- you have attempted to bypass access restrictions or abuse the Service;
- your conduct may violate applicable law or third-party rights;
- suspension is required by law, court order or competent authority; or
- action is reasonably necessary to protect Yomimasu, its users, or its infrastructure.
Where appropriate and reasonably practicable, we may provide notice and an opportunity to remedy a violation before termination.
For serious misconduct, fraud, security abuse, illegal activity, systematic scraping, deliberate paywall circumvention, or similar serious violations, suspension may be immediate.
If we terminate paid access because of your material breach, you are not entitled to a refund except where applicable law requires otherwise.
You may stop using Yomimasu at any time.
Account deletion and personal-data handling are further described in our Privacy Policy.
18. Service modifications
Digital services evolve.
We may make reasonable changes to the Service for reasons including:
- adding or improving features;
- adapting the Service to new technologies;
- improving security;
- fixing errors;
- responding to abuse;
- complying with law;
- changing third-party providers;
- updating content or educational methodology; and
- maintaining economic or technical viability.
Where applicable mandatory consumer law requires advance notice, a valid reason, continued conformity, a termination right, or another remedy for materially adverse changes, those rights remain unaffected.
19. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided on an “as available” and “as is” basis.
We do not warrant that the Service will:
- be uninterrupted or error-free;
- meet every user's individual learning goals;
- produce perfectly accurate linguistic or AI output;
- remain compatible with every device or browser indefinitely; or
- contain any particular feature or content permanently.
Mandatory statutory warranties and consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded remain unaffected.
20. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that applicable law makes non-excludable.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yomimasu is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive losses, including lost profits, lost opportunities, loss of goodwill, or loss caused by reliance on incorrect automated or educational output.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yomimasu's aggregate liability arising from or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of:
(a) the amount you paid to Yomimasu during the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or (b) CHF 100.
This limitation does not reduce any statutory remedy or liability that applicable consumer law does not allow us to exclude or limit.
21. Data and privacy
Our collection and processing of personal data is described in the Yomimasu Privacy Policy, available at:
The Privacy Policy is separate from these Terms.
You are responsible for reviewing it before using the Service.
22. Electronic communications
You agree that we may provide contractual, billing, security, account, service, and legal notices electronically, including by email, through the Service, or through your account.
Marketing communications will be handled in accordance with applicable law and our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for keeping your account email address current.
23. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms where reasonably necessary due to changes in the Service, law, security requirements, business operations, pricing structures, technology, or third-party dependencies.
For material changes affecting existing paid users, we will provide notice where required by applicable law.
Changes will apply prospectively from the stated effective date.
If applicable law gives you a termination right because of a material contractual change, that right remains unaffected.
Continued use after an effective update constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
24. Transfer of the business
You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent.
Yomimasu may assign or transfer these Terms, together with relevant rights and obligations, in connection with a merger, reorganization, financing, acquisition, asset sale, corporate restructuring, or transfer of the Yomimasu business, subject to applicable law.
25. Force majeure
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yomimasu is not responsible for delay or failure caused by circumstances reasonably beyond its control, including natural disasters, war, civil disturbance, government action, widespread internet or cloud-provider failures, cyberattacks, labor disputes, utility failures, or failure of critical third-party infrastructure.
26. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer-protection law requires otherwise.
Where legally permitted, disputes shall be subject to the competent courts at the registered domicile of the Yomimasu operator in Switzerland.
If you are a consumer, this clause does not deprive you of any mandatory protections, governing-law rights, or jurisdiction rights available to you under the law applicable to your residence.
Before commencing formal proceedings, we encourage users to contact us so that we can attempt to resolve the matter informally.
27. Severability and waiver
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Our failure to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive our right to enforce it later.
28. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with any additional terms expressly presented at purchase and any policies incorporated by reference, constitute the agreement governing your use of Yomimasu.
If plan-specific terms shown at checkout conflict with these general Terms, the more specific checkout terms govern that purchase.
29. Language
The English version of these Terms is the controlling version unless applicable law requires otherwise.
Any translation is provided for convenience.
